Fort William
(96 miles / 154 km) – The Finish Line!
You’ve done it! 96 miles, countless footsteps, and a lifetime of memories—you’ve officially completed the West Highland Way. Fort William marks the end of an epic journey, and as you step into town, you can finally let it sink in: you made it!
The Final Leg – Lairigmor Pass to Fort William
The last stretch of the West Highland Way is challenging but rewarding. You’ll pass through Lairigmor, an ancient high pass that once formed part of a historic military road. The route winds through Glen Nevis, offering stunning views of towering mountains and wild Highland scenery. With Ben Nevis looming ahead, the landscape feels both majestic and humbling.
By this point, fatigue has well and truly set in, but adrenaline (and the knowledge that a pint and a warm bed are waiting) keeps you moving forward. The final section takes you into the town of Fort William, where the official West Highland Way finish point is marked in the town centre.
Crossing the Finish Line
Arriving at the official finish point on Gordon Square, you’ll find the famous West Highland Way ‘Sore Feet’ statue, where countless walkers have taken their victory photos. This is your moment—savour it! Sit down, reflect on the journey, and give yourself the credit you deserve. You’ve conquered Scotland’s most famous long-distance trail, something few people can say they’ve done.
